- Georgia State University receives high ranking for scholarly productivity
- Georgia State University recently received a 12th place ranking in a study of scholarly productivity in peer-reviewed social work journals published in the Journal of Social Service Research. Jan Ligon, associate professor of social work and first author on the publication, notes that the same methodology has been used to calculate the results since the initial study published in 1986. Authors of articles in six social work journals for a five year period form the basis for the data, which has been tracked for a total of 25 years in the total of five studies.
- Our School secured over 3 million dollars in external grants and contracts in FY 09 including:
- Being the lead School for the Department of Human Resources’ Professional Excellence: Advanced Skills Training for the Child Welfare Professional (PIs – Dr. Peter Lyons and Mary McLaughlin).
- A JHET Foundation Grant to establish the Southeast Council on Restorative Justice (PI – Dr. Elizabeth Beck)
- Child Welfare Training Grant (PIs - Dr. Peter Lyons and Mary McLaughlin).
- Two of faculty, Drs. Deborah Whitley and Jan Ligon, have served as Presidents of the National Association of Social Workers, Georgia State Chapter.
Dr. Mary Ohmer was the 2009 recipient of the Emerging Scholar Award from the Association for Community Organization & Social Administration. Dr. Jim Wolk received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Association of Social Workers, Georgia State Chapter.
