Field Education Student Applications - BSW

Admission
Entry into field education is dependent upon the following:

  1. The student must have a grade of "C" (2.0) or better in each of the social work required courses.
  2. Successful completion  ("C" or better) of the required English courses in the core curriculum Area A (English 1101 and 1102).
  3. Successful completion of the Regents' Test.
  4. Approval from the student's academic adviser.  This includes the adviser's assessment of the student's readiness for an agency-based placement that offers opportunity for generalist-focused practice.
  5. Approval from the director of field education and acceptance by a field agency that meets the School’s requirements for student practica.

Application Process
Students must apply for enrollment in field education. The completed field placement application must be turned in by February 15 of the year prior to the anticipated fall semester starting date.  The field education sequence begins in the fall semester only.  There are no summer or block field placement opportunities.

As part of the application process, students are asked to choose three possible field sites from the approved field placement sites list.  Once all the completed applications are received, the Director of Field Education makes contact with each student to discuss possible placement sites, special interests related to placement and special needs.  The Director of Field makes the initial contact with the potential placement site and the student sets up an agency interview.  If a student has not met entry requirements for field education, the student is denied placement but may reapply at a later date.  A students who is rejected for placement by three agencies for reasons related to appropriateness (i.e. behavior, attitude) or readiness for placement may be dismissed from the program.

Field applications along with your check or money order MUST be turned in to the School of Social Work receptionist in room 1242 Urban Life.

We begin to accept completed field applications in January and continue until the deadline date.
