Scholarships and Awards

Students in the School of Social Work are eligible for has several scholarships and awards that recognize students’ academic achievement. 

 

Scholarships


Chris Perrin Memorial Scholarship
This award was established by the Georgia Council of Juvenile Court Judges in honor of Chris Perrin, a long-time advocate for children, executive director of the council and an alumnus of Georgia State University.  This award, shared by the Department of Criminal Justice and the School of Social Work, is given annually to one social work and one criminal justice student.  Click here for Application Form.

Marshall L. Bowie College of Health and Human Sciences Scholarship
This scholarship is open to fulltime undergraduate and graduate students in the college. Selection priority is given for academic record, financial need, community service, and College of Health and Human Sciences/Georgia State University involvement. Click here for Application Form.

 

Awards


Diane Davis Social Work Award was established by social work practitioners in state agencies to honor the memory of Diane Davis, a colleague who exemplified high standards of professional practice. The faculty selects a senior in the social work program who has a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and who has demonstrated a consistently high level of competency and creativity in social work.

M.S.W. Outstanding Student Award is presented to the graduating M.S.W. student with a minimum of a 3.5 grade point average who demonstrates service to the School of Social Work and embodies the spirit of community partnerships.

Wanda K. Cardwell Award:  This award was created in memory of Wanda Cardwell, A BSW and MSW graduate of the Georgia State University School of Social Work.  The recipient is a student who has exemplified courage, determination and perseverance in the completion of his or her goal despite obstacles.

Social Work Field Practicum Honors Award is presented to a social work student who is in or has completed field practicum placement during that current academic year. The recipient is selected by faculty in recognition of creativity in the social work practicum and for overall excellence in academic performance.
