Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Care

Respiratory Care is a healthcare profession, practiced under qualified medical supervision, to diagnose, treat, monitor, educate and rehabilitate patients with disorders of the cardiopulmonary system. Respiratory Care services are provided in all health care facilities, including the home.

  • How do I apply?
    You first must be accepted to Georgia State University as an undergraduate student. Then you may fill out the Respiratory Therapy application. Click here for the application.
  • When is the deadline to apply?
    May 1st  is the deadline. You can submit your application anytime from September to May 1st.
  • What is the Faculty Advisement Seminar?
    The Faculty Advisement Seminar is a required informational session directed by faculty members.
  • What will my degree be?
    A Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Care
  • How long is the program?
    5 consecutive semesters once you begin the program.
  • How many credit hours?
    66 credit hours are taken in the Junior and Senior year only; all prerequisites (60 credit hours) are taken before you enter the program.
  • What is the required GPA?
    A minimum on 2.5 Program GPA is required.
  • What is the student selection based on?
    Overall grade point average, program GPA, science GPA, consistency of academic performance, grade trends, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Will I attend clinic?
    Yes, clinical experience with patients in the metro area is combined each semester with didactic courses at Georgia State.
  • What is the class size?
    Class size is limited to availability at clinical sites. An approximate class size is 40-45 students.
  • When do you admit students?
    We admit students once every fall semester.
  • Is this program full time?
    Yes, you will be in class 3 days a week and will attend clinic two days a week.
