About
Welcome and thank you for visiting Georgia State's Division of Respiratory Therapy's website. This website provides information on the field of respiratory therapy, with links to other helpful websites such as the U.S. Department of Labor and the AARC (American Association for Respiratory Care), as well as useful information on the various facets of Georgia State's respiratory therapy programs. If you are accepted and matriculate to one of our programs, this website will continue be a major resource for you, providing updated academic information and the contacts and links that will guide you from your first registration, through graduation, and as an alumnus.
I would like to take this opportunity to briefly describe the accomplishments of our programs and of our graduates and the resources that enhance the education of our students:
- Founded in 1969 the Division of Respiratory Therapy at Georgia State has developed over the years into a nationally acclaimed professional program. In fact, a nationwide survey of Respiratory Therapy educators by the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio recently ranked our program 1st among all Respiratory Therapy programs in the country.
- The instructors in our program integrate academic and clinical education in class as well as in our clinical affiliate settings.
- Our location in downtown Atlanta provides students with the opportunity to perform their clinical practice at some of the leading healthcare institutions in the south including Northside Hospital, Grady Memorial Hospital, and Piedmont Hospital.
- Because our faculty members excel at research, our students receive instruction on the cutting edge of the profession using the latest technology. Students have the opportunity to assist in this research as well as to participate in professional lectures and presentations organized at Georgia State by the division.
- Our graduates find employment immediately after graduation at a rate consistently over 90% and many go on to supervisory and academic careers in the field.
We wish you the best in your search. Should you choose to enroll in one of our programs, we look forward to working with you.
Sincerely,
Lynda Goodfellow, Ed.D., RRT, FAARC
