Doctor of Physical Therapy students complete five clinical internships for a total of 33 weeks during the three year program at Georgia State University. The first clinical experience is integrated into the first semester. The remaining four clinical experiences are 8 weeks in length and placed throughout the curriculum. The second and third clinical experiences occur the summers after completion of the first and second academic year, respectively. The fourth experience occurs in the last spring semester. The fifth and final clinical experience occurs in the last summer semester.
GSU’s Division of Physical Therapy currently affiliates with over 200 clinical sites throughout the continental US. The majority of these sites are located on the east coast, but interested students have opportunities to travel to other sites around the country. A few international sites are also available to those who are interested. DPT students are required to complete clinical experiences in three areas: acute care, outpatient orthopedics, and in-patient rehabilitation. Opportunities for clinical internships within a specialty area exist. Specialties include, but are not limited to, pediatrics, women’s health, cancer rehabilitation, and sports medicine.
