IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING SENIOR PAPERWORK
Today many of you received your Senior Paperwork Packets which included the forms and instructions for completing the Georgia State Board of Nursing (GA BON) NCLEX application and the GSU Transcript Request. Everyone was told to bring the completed applications to the Front Office before sitting for Exit Exam I on Wednesday, October 14, 2009. However, this afternoon we were notified that there are impending changes in the NCLEX application process for the GA BON.
Therefore, if you are planning to apply to the Georgia State Board to sit for the NCLEX, please do not complete either your NCLEX paper application or GSU transcript request provided in the Senior Paperwork Package until further notice. We are awaiting additional information from the Georgia State Board of Nursing regarding the new process.
You may, however, complete the finger print based criminal back-ground check, as we have been notified that this process will not change. This notice will be uploaded to ULearn by end of day on Monday.

Basically, the duties and functions of the Undergraduate Program Committee are to guide, establish, review, implement and evaluate all courses and curricula for undergraduate programs in the school of nursing. The meetings are held once a month for about 2 hours on Monday mornings. The committee is composed of faculty and students.
Students are elected by their peers to represent each of the three classes: sophomore; junior; and senior. Please consider submitting your name to Gloria Hasberry at gloriahasberry@gsu.edu. Each class will vote for the student to represent their level. This looks great on your resume.

Volunteers Needed for Back to School Physicals
Each year the Byrdine F. Lewis School of Nursing's Health and Wellness Nursing Collaborative performs Back to School Physicals for the Children's Restoration Network (CRN). The CRN is an organization that works with children and families in shelters, and in group homes around the Atlanta area. At the beginning of each school year, the CRN sponsors a back to school function in which they give out school supplies, provide haircuts and physicals to the kids. We need volunteers to help us perform the physicals. The function will be on Sunday, August 9 from 12:30 to 5:30. It is held at My Sister's House, part of the Atlanta Union Mission. We need help with the check in, obtaining heights and weights, performing hearing and vision screening and hemoglobin. If you can help out for part or all of the time, please email Professor Browning at bbrowning@gsu.edu. We have a great time interacting with the kids- so come and join us!

| URGENT NOTICE N3710 PEDS Summer 2009 Students |
|
Untitled Document
NUR3710 PEDS Summer 2009
Hello everyone, this is VERY IMPORTANT information about criminal background checks.
Everyone will be going to the Child Development Center here on campus for one of their observational experiences. The center DOES NOT use Advantage Student for their drug screens/criminal background checks. I just found out about this 30 minutes ago (5:00 PM on 05/04/09). Every student taking NUR3710 this summer has to go ASAP (i.e., this week if at all possible) to the police station at City Hall East (675 Ponce de Leon Avenue, Atlanta, GA 30308) and should tell them that they are there for a Georgia State University Child Development Center criminal background check.
The police station at City Hall East already has the forms and students pay the fee there. I called the phone number and listened to the voice mail message (404) 853-4491.
Info from the recording:
Hours: Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
You will need a valid photo ID and apparently.
They ONLY ACCEPT a cashier's check or money order for payment.
According to the message I listened to, the fee is $10.00, but I was told by someone else that the fee is $15.00. Therefore, please call before obtaining your money order or cashier's check.
You will be given a preliminary report that you will need to submit to the Child Development Center (lower level of Alumni Hall across from the M parking deck--30 Courtland Street/Suite G17) and the final report will be mailed to the Child Development Center directly from City Hall East.
Best regards,
Carol Hall Grantham

| FREE CPR |
| Electronic CPR Study
You are being asked to take part in a national multi-site research study. If you decide to be in this study, you will approximately 600 other students from 10 nursing schools around the United States, in the study.
The purpose of this research study is to discover better ways to teach cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
You are qualified to be in this study even if you have recently taken a CPR course. This study will last up to a year for some students. This means we want you to be prepared to return in the summer months for 5-6 minute monthly practice sessions, if you should be in that group. Please think seriously about your ability to commit to this summer time training, as your full participation it is vital to the findings of the study.
You will take a CPR course using a computer program for training, practice CPR on a coaching manikin that talks to you, till you feel comfortable, then check off with a CPR instructor. After this training you may be randomized to a group that is asked to return to practice your CPR skills for 5-6 minutes a month on a manikin that coaches you in CPR skills. You may be asked to come back every month for up to one year. Every 3rd month, (3-6-9-12 months) you return to you site coordinator at a scheduled time and receive an envelope with your number on it. You may receive an envelope that contains a message saying reassess. You will demonstrate you CPR skills and be finished with the study, at that time.
You may receive an envelope that says practice. You will practice for your 5-6 minutes and continue returning every month or until you receive a reassess envelope.
You may be in a group that does nothing but the initial CPR training. You will return every 3 months (3-6-9-or 12 months) to receive an envelope that randomizes you to CPR reassessment, or continue to return every 3 months, with no practice, for up to one year. If you receive an envelope placing saying reassess, you will demonstrate your CPR skills and your part in the study is completed. You may be in a group that repeats the same CPR class you took at the start of the study, again at the end of the year. If you are in that group, you will also take a CPR knowledge test and a survey on your competence, confidence, and satisfaction survey.
You will receive an identification code at the start of the study, assigned randomly by the study statistician. Your site director will record the code and your name, in a log book. You should try to keep track of your own code number however. The code book will be stored in a locked cabinet by the site coordinator. Your name will not be used in data collection or in the analysis or reporting of data.
You may withdraw from the study at any time without penalty and your participation or lack of participation in the study will not influence your grades. The information from the study will not be shared with any of your faculty or administration in the school of nursing.
The main benefits to society are that findings from this study will contribute to an understanding of how best to teach CPR to nursing students and other healthcare providers. Improved teaching techniques may enable healthcare providers to retain their skill in CPR, preparing them to perform CPR in a competent and confident manner when needed.
You will receive CPR certification at the start of the study free of cost, which lasts for 2 years, for taking part in this study. You may receive an additional CPR certification for another 2 years if you would like, at the end of the study, after all data collection is complete, if you have completed all your training and reassessments on schedule. If you complete your role in the study, you will also receive a personalized thank you letter from the National League for Nursing.
