Scholarships
Many scholarships are based on financial need. In order to speed
up the process of receiving need-based scholarships students should fill out the
FAFSA form as soon as they are notified of admission to Georgia State
University. Even if you think you don't qualify, you should fill out the form to
be eligible for various non-need based scholarships at
http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ FAFSA applications must be updated each year. To be eligible for
any funding (loans or scholarships) you must go to the FAFSA website and update
the information.
CHHS SCHOLARSHIPS
Two $2,000 scholarships are awarded annually to full-time students in the college. The awards are open to undergraduate and graduate students. Selection priority is given for academic record, financial need, community service, and College of Health and Human Sciences/Georgia State University involvement. Marshal L. Bowie CHHS Scholarship
Applications are now available for the Marshall L. Bowie College of Health and Human Sciences Scholarship. Click here for application forms. Applications are also available on the CHHS website under Announcements and the Office of Academic Assistance.

Dr. Cennette Jackson Nursing Scholarship
This scholarship was established to honor Dr. Cennette Fisher Jackson, a former faculty member of the School of Nursing. This fund provides scholarships for undergraduate students in nursing who have demonstrated financial need and who espouse the values Dr. Jackson personified: compassion, fairness, collaboration, respect for cultural diversity, and dignity in all people. Maymi(Walker) Chandler “Class of 1939” Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship is intended to assist CHHS students with educational expenses. Awards are given to students at the Baccalaureate, Masters, and PhD level. Students in the nursing majors are given priority. Click here for information and application.
Merle Kennon Lott Scholarship: Three nursing scholarships are available to assist students interested in public health nursing or community health nursing. All applicants must have financial need. Lott scholarships provide funding to an RN-BS student; a masters-level student who is either in a primary care track in the School of Nursing, or an RN pursuing a Masters of Public Health degree; and a dissertation award for a nursing doctoral student. Barbara Haltiwanger Nursing Scholarship: This scholarship was established to honor Barbara Haltiwanger, R.N., formerly President of the Medical Association of Atlanta Auxiliary. Ms. Haltiwanger died of cancer in the 1980s. The endowment was initiated by a generous contribution from her husband, Dr. Earl Haltiwanger, and from funds raised by the Auxiliary. Both traditional and accelerated students are eligible for the scholarship. Funds may be used for tuition, student fees, books, and living expenses. Kaiser Permanenete Nursing Scholarship: This scholarship was established by contributions from Kaiser Permanente to assist students in becoming nurses. Click here for information and application.
Byrdine F. Lewis Clinical Practice Scholarship: This scholarship was established to honor Byrdine F. Lewis for her dedication to the profession of nursing. Both traditional and accelerated students are eligible for the scholarship. Kaiser Permanenete Endowed Nursing Scholarship Fund: This endowed scholarship was established by Kaiser Permanente to benefit students in the school of nursing. Both traditional and accelerated students are eligible for the scholarship. Funds may be used for tuition, student fees, books, and other educational expenses. Advanced Education in Nursing Traineeship
You must complete a FASFA form and an application form. For an application form, please contact Essie Lattimore mailto:%28nureml@gsu.edu or 404-413-1190). The AENT grants are made possible through the Nurse Reinvestment Act and distributed by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). AENT grant recipients must be currently enrolled in an accredited school of nursing and agree to serve for at least two years at a health care facility with a critical shortage of nurses.
Promise of Nursing for Georgia 2006 Faculty Fellowship Program Application Deadline March 10
Applications are now being accepted for the 2006 FACULTY FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM through the Foundation of the National Student Nurses Association. Registered Nurses enrolled in graduate level, degree-granting colleges and universities in selected regions of the US, including Georgia, may be eligible to apply for a Promise of Nursing Regional Faculty Fellowship (PON Fellowship). The PON Fellowship is designed to assist RNs who are preparing for the nurse educator role to achieve their degrees. PON Fellowships, up to $7,500 annually, may be applied toward tuition, academic fees, and books. The application deadline is March 10th, 2006 . Army R.O.T.C. Scholarships
Two-, three-, and four-year scholarships for tuition and educational fees, book allowance, and tax-free monthly stipend are provided. Apply to Georgia State University Department of Military Science, 2nd Floor, Courtland Building, (404) 413-6487.
Georgia Nurses Foundation
The Georgia Nurses Foundation offers scholarships to undergraduate and graduate nursing students. Information can be obtained from their web site.
Scholarships Available from FNSNA
The Foundation of the National Student Nurses Association (FNSNA) is pleased to announce that scholarship applications are now available for undergraduate nursing students. The undergraduate awards range from $1,000 to $5,000 and will be awarded to qualified students who meet all eligibility requirements. Winners will be announced in March. Scholarships Available Through Georgia Association for Nursing Education(GANE)

Jacobs Nursing Scholarship
Junior level undergraduate nursing students with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 are eligible for this scholarship. Special consideration will be given to students who have a documented financial need. Apply to the Byrdine F. Lewis Student Affairs Committee.
Louise B. Duncan Scholarship
The Epsilon Alpha Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau provides a scholarship of $500 to an undergraduate nursing student upon completion of the junior year. The award is made on the basis of academic achievement, professional accomplishment, and commitment to nursing. Apply to the Scholarship Committee of the Epsilon Alpha Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau.
Pope Caregivers Fellowship/Scholarship Program
The Pope Caregivers Fellowship/Scholarship Program offers funding to a select number of undergraduate and graduate students who are pursuing studies in fields that address care giving issues. These may include psychology, sociology, nursing, education, medicine, public health, and related areas of study. Students entering fields of study that have implications for human services, such as computer technology, instructional media, public policy, and business also will be eligible for fellowship/scholarship consideration. Tafford Uniforms Nursing Scholarship
Tafford Uniforms Nursing Scholarship Program will award at least two (2) $1,000 scholarships in the each of the spring and fall semesters. To qualify, applicants must have earned a GPA of 2.5 or higher, and be enrolled in an accredited program.

United Hospice Foundation Nursing Scholarships
The United Hospice Foundation is offering three scholarships for $1000 each to Georgia nursing students who have an interest in working in an end-of-life healthcare field upon graduation (hospice, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, etc.). Each scholarship recipient will be asked to maintain a “B” average and participate in a palliative care management experience (sponsored by the foundation) over the course of the school year. United Hospice Foundation Scholarship Program
For legal Georgia residents who intend to work in hospice or long-term care, working toward a B.S. or M.S. degree. Applications are available at http://www.unitedhospicefoundation.org/.
SCHOLARSHIPS OFFERED BY HEALTHCARE INSTITUTIONS
Many hospitals and other healthcare institutions offer scholarships to students; most of these types of scholarships are based on the student's agreeing to work for the health care institution upon graduation. Students should contact the human resources department of the healthcare institution directly.
Dr. Mark Coppage Nursing Scholarship

Children's Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA) Nursing Scholarship Programs
CHOA offers the following scholarship programs yearly: The Chances Scholarship Program which provides tuition equivalent assistance through nursing scholarships for selected candidates and the Opportunities Scholarship Program which provides tuition equivalent assistance to bilingual students interested in pediatric nursing careers. Newton Medical Center Nursing Scholarship Fund
Newton Medical Center is proud to offer nursing scholarships to assist in funding the education of junior and senior nursing students. Scholarships in the amount of $2,000 per year are offered to fund tuition, books, and living expenses in return for a commitment of 1872 hours of employment as a registered nurse per $2,000 scholarship. Student is required to work at Newton Medical Center as a Student Nurse Tech during school breaks a minimum of 300 hours per year for which student will be compensated at the Student Nurse Tech rate. Continued full time employment after graduation is dependent upon passing the Georgia State Boards for Nursing. More information >>
