Comments
I have been a nurse most of my life and have enjoyed every phase of my career—public health nursing, working in ICU, and being a nurse practitioner. Now, as I teach nurse practitioner and doctoral students, and carry out my own research studies, I am finding the fulfillment of putting it all together. I can't imagine another career that provides you with the opportunity to experience so many different life settings, and gives you the chance to really get to know other people and understand yourself. Nursing is truly a profession that enables one to grow and become a person who is connected with others in  meaningful relationships.

Education
PhD, 1993, Georgia State University, Atlanta, GA
MSN, 1977, St. Louis University, St. Louis, MO
BSN, 1972, Illinois Wesleyan University, Bloomington, IL
Certified as an Adult Nurse Practitioner (American Nurses Credentialing Center) since 1981
Coordinator, Family Nurse Practitioner program (2004-2006)
Doctoral Program Faculty (2004-present)

Clinical Expertise
I have practiced as an adult nurse practitioner since 1978, in internal medicine and women's health clinical settings ranging from neighborhood clinics to managed care settings and private practices. I currently practice in a women's health setting that offers gynecological, family planning and menopause services.

Research
My research is based on my clinical experience as a nurse practitioner working with women and their health problems. My work with women has taught me that many women with migraines are inadequately treated, and that even those who have appropriate medical treatment often continue to experience problems with migraines that interfere with their daily activities. With my research team, here at Georgia State University and at Emory University, I have conducted three previous studies looking at the experience of women and headaches. Currently I am Principal Investigator on a study entitled "An Internet-Based Diary Study of Women with Migraines," which is funded by the National Institute of Nursing Research (National Institutes of Health). The major purposes of this study are to examine the feasibility of using the Internet to collect daily diary data about women and their headaches, and to track women's prodromal symptoms and trigger patterns and their relationship to headaches. This study is a joint project between the Byrdine F. Lewis School of Nursing at Georgia State University, and the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University.
