Chris Perrin Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established by the Georgia Council of Juvenile Court Judges in honor of Chris Perrin, a long-time advocate for children, executive director of the council and an alumnus of Georgia State University. This award, shared by the Department of Criminal Justice and the School of Social Work, is given annually to one social work and one criminal justice student. Click here for Application Form.
James L. Maddex, Jr. Scholarship
This scholarship was established in honor of James L. Maddex, Jr., Professor Emeritus of Criminal Justice, who retired from Georgia State in 2000 after 32 years. Dr. Maddex placed great emphasis on his relationships with students as both a teacher and a mentor. This scholarship allows for one or more annual awards for criminal justice undergraduate or graduate students, based on merit and financial need. Click here for Application Form.
Phil Peters Scholarship
The Phil Peters Scholarship honors Phil Peters, Director of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation from 1980-1985 and an alumnus of Georgia State University. The award is open to juniors, seniors and graduate students who are planning careers in law enforcement or are already working in the field. Click here for Application Form.
Bobby Joe Chancey Sr. Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established by the Camden County GA Sheriff’s Office to honor the distinguished career of Sgt. Bobby Joe Chancey Sr., who served the Sheriff’s Office for many years. The award is open to fulltime rising juniors and seniors with financial need who plan careers in law enforcement. Preference is given to students with ties to Camden County GA or the surrounding area. Click here for Application Form.
Marshall L. Bowie Scholarship
This scholarship is open to fulltime undergraduate and graduate students in the college. Selection priority is based on academic record, community service, and College of Health and Human Sciences/Georgia State University involvement. Click here for Application Form.
Presidential Scholarship
This scholarship is for incoming freshmen only. Presidential Scholarships are based on merit and are awarded for 8 semesters. In addition, scholars receive awards for a summer academic research/study program. These scholarships are awarded in addition to other scholarships the scholars may receive (including the HOPE scholarship). Annual Application Deadline: January 1. Click here for Application Form.
Awards
Dean's Scholarship Key
Undergraduate students are awarded the Dean’s Scholarship Key for outstanding academic achievement at four milestones in their course work at Georgia State University based on grade point averages.
Distinguished Alumni Service Award
This award is given in recognition of “lifetime” distinguished service in a criminal justice or related public service agency to alumni of the Department of Criminal Justice at Georgia State University.
Faculty Scholarship Award
The Faculty Scholarship Award, which acknowledges a long-term commitment to academic excellence, is given to undergraduate students who have maintained a 4.0 grade point average in the course of accruing 36 semester hours of credit.
Graduate Academic Honor Student Award
This award is presented to the student with the highest grade point average in the graduate criminal justice program.
Larry E. Quinn Memorial Award
This award was established in memory of Officer Larry Quinn, DeKalb County Police Officer and Georgia State honor student who was killed in the line of duty in 1973. The award is given annually to a criminal justice student to recognize both academic merit and honorable police service. This award is restricted to in-service metro-area law enforcement officers enrolled in the Criminal Justice program at Georgia State University.
Undergraduate Academic Honor Student Award
This award is presented to the student with the highest grade point average in the undergraduate criminal justice program during his or her senior year.
