Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Violent crime on rise in Atlanta, December 19, 2006
Robbie Friedmann, professor of criminal justice, commented on whether the new FBI figures are indicative of a rise in crime in Atlanta. Friedmann cautioned that a larger time frame than the six months in question should be considered. He agreed that there is a national upward trend in crime after a decade of decreases.

The research of Dan Benardot, associate professor of nutrition and Dave Martin, Regents Emeritus professor of respiratory therapy, was featured in this New York Times 'Science' section lead article on American marathon runners preparing for the 2007 World Championships and 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Dan Benardot, associate professor of nutrition, was interviewed about a device that he and Atlanta physician Alfred Martin, have developed to measure an individual’s real-time energy balance through a watch. The device monitors the person’s heart rate to calculate the calories used, and has a system for determining calories consumed.
