Nursing professor recognized by university for her community service

5/24/2007

Dr. Myra Carmon, associate professor of nursing and a pediatric nurse practitioner, received the University Award for Exceptional Service on May 12, 2007.  This award is presented annually during commencement to a faculty member who is selected by a group of his/her peers.  Carmon has been an advocate for the medically underserved and uninsured in Georgia for over two decades.  Because of her service, homeless and low income families receive basic health screening, Georgia schools are supplied with nurses, and nurse practitioners have prescriptive authority to care for citizens with limited access to healthcare. An outstanding mentor and scholar, Dr. Carmon uses her expertise to serve on the boards of a number of healthcare organizations, such as the March of Dimes and the Georgia AIDS Coalition.  Congratulations, Dr. Carmon.
